The Covenant of Spring
The covenant of God is proclaimed in this season. Glorious spring has arrived, and she is showing off big time with a bounty of vibrance in once barren fields and a show of dancing flowers. Amazing, truly.
Two weeks ago, I found a lonely, forgotten pot outside among the pool equipment that I thought held only weeds. A few days later, I went to use it and found stubborn green leaves pushing their way through the sand and dirt. Of course! It’s spring, and those flowers have a covenant with the Creator to bloom. Today, four red amaryllis buds, stand straight and tall, pointing upward with the promise, “We are going to open on schedule, just as we always do, even though you forgot us.”
The prophet Hosea wrote of the one who “‘decked herself with earrings and jewelry and went after her lovers; But Me she forgot,’ says the Lord.” We may forget Him, but His covenant will never forget us. In the most beautiful of love songs He proclaims, “I will betroth you to Me forever; in righteousness and justice; in lovingkindess and mercy; I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you shall know the Lord.” (Hos 2:19) Celebrate His faithful love to you! Rejoice fully in it. All of creation declares, “He is risen indeed!”
